Fermi was incredibly bright and influential, but the paradox assigned to his name is so narrowly constrained by its assumptions as to be useless.
Anyone citing it as an example of how earthly life is alone in the universe has abandoned credibility.
It assumes intelligence equals interstellar travel, which is wrong.
Furthermore folks who read it carefully know that intelligence which happens to overlap with interstellar travel might not overlap in time with human record-keeping or observation.
Just dumb.
