Kate Winslet sees her therapist before shooting begins. They talk about this paycheck movie, and, when Iris Simpkins comes to life in front of the camera, she is portrayed by Jennifer Aniston. Iris and the other characters do the same things in the movie, maybe with the addition of actually questioning and wringing their hands over the carbon-emissions-costly frivolity of late-stage capitalism’s emphasis on travel as a means to declare one’s personal strength [Eat, Pray, Love — etc.], but it is simply a rom-com now, no longer a tragedy.
Winslet stars in a María Irene Fornés play that same year.
